Network Marketing

I have been involved and mostly struggled in network marketing companies for 10 years now.  I first encountered Kevin Anderson’s Cognigen Networks in my search for a home business opportunity.  I was very impressed by the technology used to enable the first use on online customer sign-ups via the Internet, although it’s MLM structure wasn’t particularly innovative.  Also, notably, Kevin Anderson had several health-related problems which resulted in a shortened life span.  Also, Cognigen has since morphed into an affiliate program known as River Offers, and has lost some of my interest, since I am a believer in the principle of leverage as exhibited in a quality MLM opportunity.

Later, I found an Internet-based technology company known as Hand Technologies.  Handtech.com, although no longer in business was a fore-runner to companies such as the Geek Squad and others.  It is not surprising, since it was founded by Martin Slagter (former Head of Dell Europe), Andrew Harris (former President of Dell International), and Nathan Morton (former CEO and Chairman of CompUSA).  Handtech.com was unique in this arena, since it was founded as a multi-level marketing company, like Cognigen.  Unfortunately, Handtech.com, like many start-ups didn’t survive.

I began to be interested in health companies, initially joining the network marketing arm of TwinLabs, Changes International.  Changes International focused on an ephedra-based product known as Thermo-Lift.  Although it appeared to have many success stories, I personally did not lose any weight with their products.  FDA’s ephedra ban put an end to this home business for me, although I sold a fair amount of product in the year or two I was involved.

Next, I joined Melaleuca on the recommendation of friends.  I enjoyed the products, but never had a passion for selling soap.
To be continued…….

  1. Hi Jim,

We have had some similar experiences, and I too love employing the principle of leverage. It sure beats the stress, overhead, liability, and income practicing law…I know, as in the 90’s I founded and was President/CEO of the 18th largest law firm in the 7th largest city in the US.

I’d like to dialogue with you. Please give me a call next week at 210-xxx-xxxx.

    Sincerely,
